App analytics – the perfect way to track your app activities!

App analytics – the perfect way to track your app activities!

Posted on September 6, 2022September 6, 2022 By Shraddha Nevase

Analytics is as important as any other process in any business, irrespective of industry. A proper analysis of a particular function, system, or device tells us what our users love and where we need to improve to serve them better.

Earlier, there was only web analytics, but nowadays, owing to the smartphone era, where everyone is using an app for every need on their smartphones, the need for app analytics has taken its head high in the market.

What is App analytics?

Application analytics analyze the efficiency and success of the web, mobile, and desktop apps by monitoring their performance. As the paradigm for software deployment and development has altered, measuring the performance of programmes to enhance and fine-tune them constantly has become increasingly crucial.

Web and mobile application analytics continuously monitor various metrics on the backend and front end of the application stack. Today’s mobile and web application analytics can measure usage statistics such as the number of installations, duration and frequency of app use, and devices and operating systems used to access the app.

In addition, application analytics may monitor how well an app performs from the user’s perspective, including the presence of bugs, problematic areas, and user satisfaction. These many data points enable developers to make prompt decisions regarding enhancements and repairs, hence facilitating a more effective update and release cycle.

Typically, application analytics are intended to extend the lifecycle of an application and maintain its revenue streams. Understanding even the most detailed data can be a differentiating factor for applications competing against a huge number of other applications.

How to utilize App Analytics?

Application analytics is an invaluable source of insights for organizations that employ continuous integration and delivery development models. Because these applications do not provide sufficient time for developers to evaluate any concerns or potential flaws, developers want real-time data from which they can derive insights.

Measuring basic usage information such as request and failure rates, response times, dependence rates, and exceptions is one of the most prevalent implementations of embedded analytics in applications. These indicators are essential for backend development and can assist businesses in enhancing the quality of life for consumers, thereby making them happy.Knowing how frequently an application crashes or malfunctions can tell you a lot about how effectively it was constructed and provide clear areas for improvement.

On the other hand, application analytics can help you obtain a deeper understanding of your users and who is downloading your app. You can track geolocation, the device being used, and even the browser or operating system being employed. Thus, you may target your services to your largest population and continually improve your products in response to their choices.

Difference between Web analytics and App analytics

Since the early 2000s, web analytics software has been in existence. In 2005, Google acquired a firm named Urchin and relaunched the product as Google Analytics, making web analytics software popular. Web analytics tools are constructed with the “page view” as the fundamental measuring unit. Each page on a website has a unique URL, and as a user navigates from one page to another, the activity is recorded and made available for analysis.

Web-based or mobile applications are developed in an altogether different manner than websites. Page views cannot represent common behaviours within an app, such as swiping, searching, and “liking.” These user actions are commonly known as “events.”

Due to this differentiation and the significant increase in the number of applications, a new category of analytics tools based on the “events” data model was developed. This includes tools such as Mixpanel, which are frequently referred to as app analytics (or product analytics) due to the fact that its architecture is specifically designed for application analysis.

Conclusion

To create a great app, it is crucial to understand how people use it and how it benefits your organization. This includes asking the appropriate questions, monitoring the success metrics, and utilizing the appropriate software to delve into these measurements and behaviours to comprehend their drivers. Web page analysis is the speciality of web analytics software such as Google Analytics.

Ideal app analytics tools can analyze user activity in greater depth. This type of app analytics software will allow you and your team to analyze your app with the parameters like the popular features of the app, the most and least active users, and factors affecting the upgrade rates and long-term retention.
